1. PE performance

PE is the plastic with the highest yield in plastics and is characterized by its softness, non-toxicity, low cost, convenient processing, good chemical resistance, low corrosion, and difficulty in printing. PE is a typical crystalline polymer.

Its variety, commonly used LDPE (low density polyethylene) and HDPE (high density polyethylene), is a translucent plastic, low strength, specific gravity of 0.94g/cm3 (smaller than water); very low density LLDPE resin (The density is less than 0.910 g/cc, and the density of LLDPE and LDPE is between 0.91 and 0.925).

The material has good flow characteristics, with an MFR of 0.1 to 28. The higher the molecular weight, the worse the flow characteristics of LDPE, but better impact strength. HDPE is prone to environmental stress cracking. It is possible to reduce the cracking phenomenon by using a very low flow material to reduce the internal stress. HDPE is easily dissolved in hydrocarbon solvents when the temperature is higher than 60C, but its solubility is better than that of LDPE.

2. Process characteristics of PE

The most significant feature of PE parts is the high mold shrinkage, which can easily cause shrinkage and deformation. PE material has low water absorption and can be used without drying. PE processing temperature range is very wide, not easy to decompose (decomposition temperature 320 °C), if the pressure is high, the workpiece density is high, the shrinkage rate is small.

The PE has medium fluidity. The processing conditions must be strictly controlled and the mold temperature must be kept constant (40-60°C). The degree of crystallization of PE is related to the molding process conditions. It has a relatively high solidification temperature, low mold temperature, and low crystallinity. During the crystallization process, internal stress concentration is caused by the anisotropy of shrinkage, and PE parts are prone to deformation and cracking.

The product is placed in a hot water bath at 80°C to allow the pressure to relax. In the molding process, the material temperature and the mold temperature are higher, and the injection pressure is lower on the premise of ensuring the quality of the workpiece. The cooling of the mold is particularly required to be even and rapid, and the product is hot when it is released from the mold.


3. Typical application range

LLDPE has penetrated most of the traditional markets for polyethylene, including films, moldings, tubing, and wire and cable. Anti-leakage film is a newly developed LLDPE market. Plastic film, a large extruded sheet, used as landfill and waste pool liner to prevent leakage or contamination of surrounding areas.

Examples include the production of bags, garbage bags, flexible packaging, industrial liners, towel liners and shopping bags, all of which are advantages of using this resin with improved strength and toughness. Transparent films, such as bread bags, have always been dominated by LDPE because it has better turbidity.
